Rain Lily?

Someone gave me a flower that they called a, %26quot;rain lily%26quot;. It looks like a day lily, except it%26#039;s purple. Does anyone know what it is?

Rain Lily?
Family:Amaryllidaceae

Genus: Zephyranthes

Species: there are several; candida, grandiflora, atamasca, citrina, robustus, drummondii and on and on

Rain Lilies are so named because they bloom only with rain. A native of South America, it is found naturalized in the lower South. Some are sterile, others self sow.

Bulbs should be planted at a depth where the %26quot;neck%26quot; is just under the soil line. It is not particular about soil types. Prefers full sun

Texas Rain Lilly is very small and usually comes up wild in lawns %26amp; fields. Pop up like mushrooms during rains and then dissappear when the ground dries. Only seen them in white but hybrids are more than possible. Day lillies are much larger. Stepping up is the Calla.
